This week’s podcast took a detour—what started as a recap of Toni and Eli’s baby shower became a deep reflection on work-life balance, burnout, and why boundaries matter.
If you’ve ever planned an event, coached multiple classes in a day, or worked yourself into the ground to “get ahead,” this blog is for you.
The Weekend Recap:
Toni and Eli hosted their baby shower at Breathe CrossFit, with 80+ guests, homemade cookies and brownies, decorations, and lots of laughs. But in the middle of the celebration, Toni realized something: she felt exhausted. The event flew by in a blink of an eye. Despite the joy, she barely got to slow down and enjoy it.
This moment reminded her of past patterns—especially when she used to work 16-hour shifts and skip workouts or family time just to hustle harder.
What’s Changed Since Then:
Today, Toni is more intentional about protecting time and energy, both for herself and her staff. That includes:
- Not coaching back-to-back-to-back classes
- Avoiding late-night closings followed by early-morning opens
- Quarterly check-ins with coaches to discuss their work-life goals
- Setting minimums (like 3 classes/week) but not pushing for more unless requested
This system has helped prevent burnout among Breathe’s coaching team while keeping quality high across all classes.
Practical Advice for Members:
Toni encourages listeners to ask themselves:
“Do I actually need to work more, or can I cut back elsewhere?”
Some ideas she shared:
- Cook at home instead of dining out (saving $100+ per meal)
- Meal prep using sale items or leftovers
- Buy versatile ingredients to batch cook and reduce waste
- Reassess financial habits instead of piling on more work
Bottom Line:
Work-life balance doesn’t mean doing less—it means doing what matters most. Toni’s baby shower was a beautiful reminder that rest is part of the process. And it’s a lesson she’s building into the culture at Breathe.
