How Julie Johnson Lost 11 Pounds of Fat, Gained Muscle, and Reclaimed Her Energy Before 6 AM

If you’ve ever said, “I don’t have time to work out,” you need to meet Julie Johnson.

Julie is Breathe CrossFit’s Member of the Month—and for good reason. She works full-time in strategy and planning at Fidelity Investments, has two kids, is planning a wedding, and still shows up consistently to our 5:15 AM class. In just six months, she’s lost 11 pounds of fat, gained muscle, and found the energy to power through her busy days.

Here’s how she did it—and how you can too.

1. She Planned Ahead.

Julie sets out her gym clothes the night before and books her classes every Sunday. “If I have to cancel, I feel guilty—so I show up,” she laughs. This small routine holds her accountable and removes decision-making at 4:30 AM.

2. She Stopped Making Excuses.

Like many parents, Julie used to put herself last. “I just decided—I’m done making excuses.” She wrote it on her desk calendar: No more excuses. That small act of commitment turned into daily action.

3. She Found Her Team Again.

As a former athlete, Julie missed the team environment. “In CrossFit, it feels like we’re all working toward something together. Even when I don’t push myself hard enough, someone else believes in me—and that makes me want to do more.”

Group accountability has helped Julie stay consistent and competitive, especially with her fiancé Brian, who also trains at Breathe.

4. She Kept Nutrition Simple.

Julie recently adopted a carnivore-style diet—mostly meat, eggs, and cheese. But even before that, she was eating balanced, whole foods. The biggest change? More protein and fewer cravings. “I feel full with less food and way more energy,” she said.

5. She Prioritized Long-Term Habits.

Julie isn’t interested in crash diets or quick fixes. “I want to be consistent and enjoy what I’m doing so I stick with it,” she says. That mindset shift—choosing sustainability over perfection—is key to her success.

Takeaway:
Julie’s story is proof that you don’t need perfect conditions—you just need a plan, a support system, and the courage to start. Whether you’re a working parent or a former athlete looking to get back on track, Julie’s journey offers simple, actionable lessons.
